Free State Caskets offers affordable burial containers that are biodegradable, sturdy, reverent, and simple. Plain, unfinished pine is the primary material. But don’t confuse simplicity with lesser quality. These caskets are lovingly crafted and will easily support 300 pounds.

My interest in building caskets came about when my parents were pre-planning their funeral arrangements and decided on natural burial; no embalming, no vault, just an uncomplicated, no frills, yet dignified burial in a plain pine casket. They discovered that there was no one producing such caskets locally and asked me to build theirs so that no major decisions will need to be made when their time comes. This labor of love prompted the establishment of Free State Caskets.

                                                                                                                                                                                          

The standard casket is $600. Interior dimensions are 14″ deep x 25″ wide x 76″ long. Custom sizing is available. There is no interior lining.

                                                                                       

Caskets constructed with no metal fasteners (other than screws to secure the lid) are $850. Prices do not include delivery except for local orders and are subject to change.  I try to keep a limited inventory on hand for prompt delivery. If a casket is made to order, please allow 5-7 business day for delivery. 

Plain pine cremation urns are also available; pricing ranges from $100 – $150. Price does not include shipping.  

Casket delivery is available within approximately 300 miles of Lawrence, KS; please call or email for a cost quote. Delivery within 50 miles of my shop near Baldwin City, KS is free.  Please call or email for FedEx shipping costs on urns.
